Struck by Orca: ICD-10 Illustrated

ICD-10 is the system of codes that hospitals and clinics use to indicate why a patient is being seen. They tend to be remarkably specific, and often hilarious. Meaningful use is a set of guidelines for healthcare organizations to show they’re using their electronic health records… meaningfully.

The Struck by Orca project selected some of the more colorful (real!) ICD-10 codes, and all of the meaningful use stage 2 guidelines, and crowd-sourced art to be put into books, a deck of playing cards, on posters, and in slide decks. I managed Twitter and Facebook for this project in 2014 and 2015. What I enjoyed about this project was the chance to use a more humorous, irreverent voice to poke fun at the red tape and regulations.

1 Million Cups Madison

From 2014-2016, I was a volunteer organizer of 1 Million Cups Madison, a free, weekly program for entrepreneurs to pitch their startups to an audience over coffee. As a founding member, I managed PR for 1MC Madison, which included press releases, a newsletter, and social media (like live-tweeting each presentation).
